Journey: Five Minute Fridays

This post is part of Five Minute Fridays Link-Ups. Here is my post for this week’s prompt: Journey.

Time begins now….

As I considered this week’s prompt, I was reminded of the study I have been doing in the book of I Peter. In this letter to the dispersed church, Peter encourages the believers to live as “sojourners and exiles” in the world. This world is not their final destination. Heaven is our home, and in the meantime, we are to live in this world in a way that shows were are different. We have an identity that is in Christ, and as his holy people, we are called to live holy lives that glorify God and witness of His grace.

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.

I Peter 2:9-12 (ESV)

As I have been studying I Peter, I have had to ask many questions of myself. In regards to being sojourners and pilgrims on a journey to my true home, I should be living differently. But do I? Am I living as if this body is temporary? Or am I seeking earthly comfort and pleasure? Do I live in view of eternity, or do I try to fit in and make myself fully at home here in this short life? I am not sure I can honestly answer those questions in the way that I would like.

Lord, help me to live more for you and less for this life and my own comfort. Let me see the journey before me as an offering to you for your service and glory. Amen

End time…

  1. Good questions to ponder and reflect on. I like how you highlighted the word sojourners, which I tend to forget is someone who is on a journey and just passing through. Visiting from FMF#10
