Our Container Gardening Ideas for 2025

With signs of spring popping up all around us–crocus blooming, robins returning, buds coming out on the cotoneasters–I am thinking it is time to get my spring and summer garden plans finalized! This year will be different from other years as we live in a rental property now. I don’t have a reason to invest large amounts of money into garden soil amendments, rearranging the landscaping, or constructing large garden beds, even if I felt like I was “allowed” to do those things. Really, all we are required and encouraged to do with our yard is keep the grass growing…

Knitting Notes: Finish It (or Frog It) February

I’m back this week with a (somewhat lengthy) knitting and crochet update! I got a lot more done over the course of the past month than I expected and had a lot of inspiration from fellow fiber artists lately, so I have quite a few projects to report about. First, we will start off with the Finish It (or Frog It) February Challenge. Then I will share what I have already finished since last month, and I will end what a report of what I am working on now. My Sewing Plans for 2025 (AKA My 2025 Make Nine)

Welcome, back friends! This week on the blog I am sharing my 2025 sewing plans as they stand right now. These plans are being held pretty loosely because, as you will see in the photo collage below, I don’t yet have fabrics for all the patterns I am considering sewing. I have seen the term “Make Nine” used around the inter webs for some folks garment crafting plans, and I think it is most commonly used on Instagram (which I no longer use myself). It just so happens that I have nine vintage sewing patterns in my queue, so I…

Wellness Wednesday: Seven Wholesome Soups and Stews

As I sit down to write today’s Wellness Wednesday post, a cold drizzle is falling outside. The leaves are almost all down from the trees, and we have had several gray, cloudy days in a row. The crisp but sunny September and October days are over, it seems, and a more wintery feel is moving in with November’s arrival. This being the case, soups and stews are showing up on my weekly meal plan more often! My family can’t eat canned soups, since many contain gluten, MSG and other additives that give us various health issues. But healthy, wholesome soups…

    Day 11: Door #write31days2018

Since moving to a more affluent area last year, I have been somewhat reluctant to open my door and invite people over. We currently live in a rather small, shabby old rental house with lots of quirks and annoying little problems that we can’t change since we don’t own the place. I haven’t decorated much since we know this is a temporary situation. It isn’t the color scheme I would choose if I owned the house, and the kitchen is far from ideal. I feel, quite honestly, a little embarrassed to have people over because I know that most of…
