Part 2 of “The Princess, The Dragon, and The King: An Allegory”

I am back again this week with the second part of the story I began last week. This installment will wrap up the allegory section from my talk, but next week I will share the meaning of the allegory and my personal story. So stay tuned for the rest of the series over the coming weeks! If you missed Part 1, you can read that here.

Driven to the deep dungeons of the castle, in almost complete darkness, the princess found light in a tiny corner of her heart that the monster had not managed to poison. In desperation she cried out for help, though she had little hope of being heard.

However, the King of all that realm was nearer than the princess could have imagined. He heard her calling out from the depths, and he immediately dispatched a wise counsellor to the princess’ court.

This counsellor spoke the princess of an ancient fountain that she had known from her youth but had neglected in her despair. This fountain was named the Font of Grace, and it flowed freely for all both day and night. Its waters had power to heal any disease or affliction of the soul when taken while bowing to the King in good faith. To monsters like the dragon, however, it was deadly.

The princess was weak from long subjection to the beast, but daily she went to the fount and drew from it the waters of life and healing. In time, Grace did its healing work and the princess began to be restored. The dragon, fearing the power of the King and weakened by the waters of Grace, slunk away to a distant corner of the land, perhaps never to return. The prince and princess, both refreshed and strengthened by the King’s goodness, began to restore peace and joy to their land.

In time, another baby was born to them, this time a lovely baby girl. The princess was fearful that on hearing of the birth, the dragon would return, but he did not show his ugly face again. The happy parents named the new baby princess Grace, after the King’s blessed fountain that had saved them and their whole domain from destruction.

The prince and princess and their children are still living happily in service to their glorious King, still guarding the borders of their land and the walls of their castle from enemies. At times the princess sees shadows lurking in the palace, and sometimes she still feels pain from the dragon’s poison that sunk deep into her soul. But when she does, she goes to the Font of Grace to drink deeply of its healing drafts, bowing to her King and calling on His name. And I believe that they will all live happily ever after, because this is not The End…

And this is also not the end of the series! Check back here next week for the next part of my talk.

Until then, may the King’s grace be with you.
